True, I am stuck here at work today, but I am glad that I am not in Egypt.

In fact, if I were in Egypt, I could not be writing this because they have shut down the Internet.

So, I suppose, for the first time in my life, I would rather be at work ;)

Putting DVDs on Your Hard Drive

My goal this Friday morning is to transfer my DVD collection onto my hard drive. In the article copy DVD to hard drive, it seems that this process is rather simple, straight-forward, and, best of all, free.

However, as we know, these things are not always as they seem.

Why do I want to do this? Well, several reasons actually. As I wrote in my last post, I have I have Connected My Laptop to My LCD TV as I found from Olswell and now I want to be able to watch my DVDs directly from my laptop.

Yes, of course, I could just put the DVD into the player and away I go. However, what if I lose my DVD collection. What if the kids scratch my DVDs?

I have roughly 200 DVDs and that's worth a lot of money. Thus, I want to be able to store these on a hard drive.

I have started the process with the first DVD now and it actually seems very simple. It took about 1 hour for the whole process.

Now, I just have about 200 more hours to go...maybe I'll do one each night...

Viewing My Desktop Screen on my LCD TV

Here´s the thing: I have a ton of movies on my computer. But frankly, what good are they if I can only watch them on my computer screen. Thus, I am currently researching how to connect computer to TV so that I can make this happen.

Oddly, it seems easy and challenging at the same time. It seems like I just need to connect one cable on my computer to connect to my LCD TV but this is harder than it initially appears. Why? Well, there are many different types of cables: VGA, DVI, and HDMI.

But, in the end, after much research it appears that I will be Connecting My TV to My PC with a VGA. Unfortunately, I do not have a DVI or HDMI interface on my computer which leaves me with just the one option: VGA.

However, I understand that only the very trained eye can tell the difference. So, in the end, I´ll be connecting via VGA and I will have my LCD with my computer display, which will be sweet!

Spanish for Work and Pleasure

Ok, you guys know why I have not been available to attend the weekly book meetings?

I will tell you. I am trying to learn Spanish. It came up at work a few weeks ago that we need an employee who can speak Spanish and travel to our subsidiaries in Europe and especially South America. I have never been to South America but I have heard so many great things. We have offices in Argentina, Chile, and Columbia and I would get to travel to all three.

I really want to go to Columbia because it is perceived as off-limits. We have all seen the news reports of how dangerous Columbia can be but I have read that the cities are very safe and cultural and that the people of Columbia are incredible.

But we never get to see it because all the news reports say that it is so dangerous and that we should not go. I, however, have read up on this and really want to spend some time. But to do so, I need to learn Spanish. I am actually not to be having been an astute student in the past and remembering quite a bit.

I realize that this is not the case with everyone. Many people take years of Spanish and forget everything. In Brack Learns Spanish, we see someone in that situation, someone who has studied for many years yet remembers nothing. I however have been keeping up through the years, speaking a little with those from Mexico so I am well on my way.

However, it will take a lot more and this is why I cannot go to the book club each week anymore...because I am learning Spanish for work...but more for pleasure!
